Hi, I'm Chris Monti a musician, writer, bandleader and educator. I write songs that give away my interest in afro-pop, rock, old-time fiddle music, free music, soukous, country-blues, and calypso. I sing and play acoustic and electric guitar and harmonica. And a bit of banjo, bass and ukulele. I've cranked giant hurdy-gurdys for operas, played Terry Riley's "In C", trained pretty heavily in west african style guitar, dug deep into country-blues and old-time music, picked up bits of style from Egypt , Peru and India, picked the brain of every great musician I can get my hands on, and have been making a living as a musician in New England for over fifteen years.
The Chris Monti Band plays my danceable songs as well as international dance music. The Devilfish is a dance band too that plays covers of great surf, rock, mambo, cumbia, blues and boogie songs. Wilbur Hill is an acoustic roots project. I've performed with The Puppet Showplace Theater and Big Nazo, and I have a program of children's music and sing-alongs that I perform at schools, libraries and other community events.
