I perform for children and families in Elementary Schools + Libraries, at Bradley Hospital + Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and at farmers markets and community events. I can play for any sized group. I have performed for individual patients in hospital rooms and for groups of hundreds in auditoriums. I have a very wide repertoire of songs and musical styles and I can cater a performance to just about any audience.
For children, I have a classic children’s repertoire (Wheels on the Bus, Down By the Bay) to which I add older folk material (The Fox, Groundhog). I also include early Rock 'n' Roll and Rhythm and Blues music from the 50’s and 60s. I’ve found some great songs from that era that resonate with young people, especially songs that contain nonsense words or irresistible singalong choruses. For example: Tutti Frutti, Yakkety Yak, Hit The Road Jack, Obladi Oblada, and Three Little Birds.
I can bring the energy down if needed with songs like Freight Train—written by a 14 year old Elizabeth Cotton—and You Are My Sunshine. And I can bring the energy back up with a surf-rock song like Pipeline. I can also add international music like the West African folk song Tumba, and the Spanish language classic La Bamba.
