Hey.
A big thank you to everyone who made it out to the show last night. Hope all of you who had never been to AS220 enjoyed the venue.
I figured that since I know what the set list was since we actually followed a set lis last night, I'd send it to all of you, along with at least the author of the song. If this is too much info for you.. well, sorry.
Set 1
- I Know You Rider --An old traditional tune. I picked it up from an upright bass player named Andy who
lived up in New Hampshire during the dirty-hippie days. Also from listening to Doc Watson and Jerry
Garcia
- Sweet Mystery --Written by George's friend Ted Van Berg
- Me and Curby --Written by Chris Monti
- T fo' Texas --A Jimmy Roger's tune. Jimmy Rogers was a country singer from the 30's. George likes to
yodel, and hell, why not?
- 23 Dec --another one of mine
- Moonshiner --Another traditional tune. I don't know where George and Julie picked it up, but I know
there is a copy of Dylan doing it on the bootleg series.
- Ye Ol' Time Love Song --A George Hardy tune, an' a real purty one
- I Can't Help It If I'm Stillin Love With You --A Hank Williams tune with Julie singing lead, George singing
harmony, Ed in the hopper 'taking a leak,' and Chris remembering a little late that this song is in A,
not C
- Summertime --The classic Gershwin Tune
- Blue Bossa --Not only do we not know the head to this tune, but we also don't know who wrote it.
Joe Henderson fits in somewhere.
- Dupree's Diamond Blues --a Hunter/Garcia tune. Shame on you if you don't know who Robert Hunter
and Jerry Garcia are.
- The Local Expatriate --A song of mine about self reflection and a call to get off your ass and do
something worthwhile
Set2
- RB Astard --a song about an unseemly character written by yours truly
- cats --an old one of mine. Been working for 7 years to get this one right. This band does a pretty
good job with it
- Flying --One of George's. I dunno what this song is about. I do like Julie's funky bass tho.' And the wa
wa pedal
- Wave o' Mutilation --The Black Francis Classic. Listen, go to your friendly nighborhood independant
music store and buy yourself a copy of the Pixie's 'Doolittle.' Do it today.
- Top o the Hill --Gabe Luddy, a fantastic local Providence song writer, wrote the chords to this, I wrote
the lyrics during a terribe forestry class in college. The lyrics were inspired by a poem that I wrote in
second grade or so about an oild storyteller named Bill who lived up on a hill
- The Green Song --Inspired by Sonny Rollins and Dickie Betts, go figure. One of my tunes
- Julie Song No. II --Lyrics by Julie Restivo, music by Chris Monti
- Jack --Yet another traditional song. I pulled this arrangement, with some rhythmic variations, from a '77
Dead show. A classic tune about the woman dressin up like a man to get on the ship.
Have a good day everybody.
Chris
